Theists, if the earth was created for us, why do we have to change it so much to survive in it?

I don't feel that the earth was created for us, but we didn't actually have to change it that much to survive in it. If that were the case, we'd have died out long ago. Back when we were simple hunter-gatherers, we had very little, and our lives were mostly devoted to our survival. But we survived. The reason things have changed so much is because we're thinking beings, and we sought to improve our lives. But frankly, we could survive with very little, provided we were able to find sources of food and water and some kind of shelter for ourselves.
